LHC - Educational Woods Walk: Young Forest Management

Educational Woods Walk

Saturday September 22, 2018
9:00 am. – 1:00 pm.
180 Birch Hill Road Patterson, NY 12563

The State of New York is encouraging landowners in southern NY to think about managing their lands for young forests. Why you ask? Many of our forests in this part of the state today are old, have been hi-graded over a few generations and are nearing maturity. In addition, current research has found certain animal species need young forests to survive, and a lack of this habitat has led to many species disappearing from this area. Thus, by using heavy cutting methods like seed-tree and shelter-wood harvests, we can both restore the economic vitality of our forests and create much-needed wildlife habitat at the same time.

Join us for an educational half day program highlighting what you as a landowner can do to help. The woods walk will show what one landowner has been doing over the last four years to create and maintain this habitat.

Come join us for a fun and educational day! Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. Please bring proper shoes and clothing to walk in the woods.

Note: There is no fee to attend but you must register. Details in this flyer.
