NYFOA Executive Director Vacancy Notice

Position Description: The mission of the New York Forest Owners Association (NYFOA) is to promote sustainable forestry practices and improved stewardship on privately owned woodlands in New York State. Reporting to the board of directors as a contractor (1099 status), the executive director will oversee NYFOA's strategic activities and communicate regularly with our 10 statewide chapters. NYFOA is looking for a highly skilled executive director to help us fulfill this important undertaking. This seasoned leader not only understands the key elements of sound forest management techniques for the private woodlot owner, but has proven experience translating a vision into practical applications, accessible to our membership. Above all, the executive director will be comfortable in a leadership role that demands clear communication and decisiveness.

Executive Director Responsibilities

-- Work closely with the board of directors, chapter leadership, and committees, informing, assessing, and addressing issues that affect the organization

-- Visit and communicate regularly with NYFOA's 10 chapters

-- Oversee NYFOA's daily operations, providing executive direction in pursuit of strategic initiatives, to include fund raising

-- Serve as the face of the organization and actively participate in events to increase organizational visibility among NYFOA members, prospective members, and NYS policymakers concerning key issues facing the private woodlot owner in our state.

--Develop strategic partnerships with organizations which have complementary objectives -- potentially leveraging these relationships to gain broader support for our programs

-- Coordinate and lead annual and quarterly budget reviews insuring that chapters have sufficient resources to carry local programs

Executive Director Skills and Qualifications

-- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Business Management, or a closely related field.

-- Demonstrated leadership and management skills in a forestry related organization

-- Experience managing budgets

-- Ability to work independently

-- Excellent oral and written communications skills

Work Commitment: The executive director will have a contractual relationship with NYFOA, provide their own office space and equipment, follow a flexible work schedule, and commit to a minimum of 1,000 dedicated hours per year to NYFOA activities. All approved travel expenses related the job will be covered by NYFOA.
