WFL: Genesee Country Village and Museum (GCV&M)

Genesee Country Village and Museum (GCV&M)

by Colette Morabito

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 18, 2021 - Smithsonian Day at the GCV&M.It is a free admission day as well as WFL’s opportunity to share NYFOA’s message out with the many passersby from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. We are most excited to enlist NYFOA Executive Director, Craig Vollmer, who will make two presentations that day in the John L. Wehle Gallery.

11 a.m.: An Overview of the Forests and Forestry in New York State

1 p.m.: What You Should Know About Your Woodlot and How to Get Help

We are grateful to Mike Seager, Ron Reitz, Greg Lessord, and Colette & David Morabito for the gift of their time to interact with the public that day. Handing out all manner of forestry brochures, answering questions, signing up new members to NYFOA, as well as encouraging visits from Master Forest Owner (MFO) volunteers, these will be just some of their contributions.

The GCV&M is a wonderful location to enjoy a day full of nostalgia from yesteryear. But be sure to reserve some time out of your day to come by the Wehle Gallery to hear Hugh’s presentations as well as to experience the exhibit: Nature’s Chain: The Land and Our Place in It. The WFL booth will be set up in the museum; please stop and say hello. We are proud to say that NYFOA is an integral part of the exhibit. This is a great opportunity for WFL to meet with the public again after so many months of isolation. There is food available on site and many picnic tables set up around the village for treats from your picnic basket. As always, please be sure to respect the NYS Covid-19 restrictions that may be in place at the GCV&M at that time.
