Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases

Now presented as a live webinar in place of the physical meeting (see below)

Kenneth Smith, Executive Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County

Wednesday, April 15, 2020 6:30 pm

Dear NYFOA Southern Tier Chapter Members and friends of NYFOA,

Due to restrictions on gatherings during the pandemic, our program on ticks and tick-born diseases scheduled for April 15th will be presented as a live webinar using ZOOM software from the offices of Cornell Cooperative Extension. Unfortunately, the ticks are not quarantined by COVID-19, and it has been a relatively warm winter, so they are active and out there in even greater numbers. Tune in to this webinar on Wednesday, April 15,2020 from 6:30PM-7:30PM and reinforce your knowledge about numerous serious diseases they are transmitting, and how to protect yourself and your family.

Ticks and tick-borne diseases are on the increase and forest owners, farmers, gardeners and outdoor recreationalists are particularly vulnerable. In addition to Lyme, other diseases, including Anaplasmosis, Powassan and Babesiosis are showing up in New York State and can be debilitating or fatal. Join us and learn about the life cycle of ticks, its habitat requirements, how to protect yourself from being bitten, and early symptoms of tick-borne disease.

This program will be presented via zoom by Kenneth Smith, Executive Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Chenango County and is co-sponsored by the Southern Tier Chapter of the New York Forest Owners Association and CCE of Broome County. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

You must register for this event prior to April 15th, 2020. On the day of the event a zoom link will be sent to the e-mail that was provided at registration.
