Kazacos Timber Frame Construction Tour and Woods Walk

This property is in Otsego County midway between Cooperstown and Oneonta.

What we will be doing: This SOT event will be a bit different from the classic woods walk format. Jeannine and Stacey are in the process of building a timber frame house addition. This method of construction features exposed timbers, expert wood joinery, and natural finishes – primarily using materials found in the forests of the northeast. The building contractors will be on hand to explain more about the construction methods as we tour the project.

In addition, participants will walk portions of the Kazacos woodlot guided by a consulting forester. We will view timber stand improvement, invasive control, and anti-erosion plantings adjacent to a large pond. This walkabout will be three years after most of the work was done and we will see how the woodlot has changed. SOT hosted a woods walk at the same property in 2018 shortly after much of the TSI and invasive control measures were completed. Consider this as a before and after scenario.
