SOT Annual Pot Luck Dinner

The Mission of the Waterman Conservation Center

Tuesday, January 28th, 2020

Doors open at 6PM

Cornell Cooperative Extension

840 Upper Front Street

Binghamton, NY

The Seneca White Deer Tour Program has been cancelled for 2020 so we have arranged a new speaker for our NYFOA Southern Tier Chapter Pot Luck Dinner on January 28.

Christopher Audette, Executive Director for the Waterman Conservation Education Center, will speak to us about the Waterman Center’s mission, activities, and features of the six nature preserves they maintain for public education and enjoyment in Broome and Tioga Counties. The Waterman Preserves offer a wide variety of natural environments, from wetlands and ponds, to old growth forests, Hemlock-lined ravines, and even the largest island in the Susquehanna River. Miles of walking trails are maintained at all locations, and some provide interpretive signage regarding the flora and fauna.

Many of the Waterman properties share the impacts from Emerald Ash Borer, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and invasive species. Chris will also discuss the challenges in managing these problems, and assuring regeneration of the forest, when active forest management can be limited by donor restrictions, land trust provisions, and public perceptions.

Once again, our Pot Luck Dinner will be held in the auditorium at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, 840 Upper Front Street, Binghamton. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., dinner starts at 6:30, and the program at 7:15.

Bring a dish to pass and your own dishware and utensils. Beverages will be provided.
