Managing Sugarbush for Birds

Zack Boerman, Forest Program Associate, Audubon New York

Maple surgarbushes provide nesting habitat for a diversity of forest birds. Many of these birds have experienced a steep population decline for decades. Sugarbush management activities that develop a structurally and biologi-cally diverse forest can play a vital role in global bird conservation efforts while simultaneously enhancing the health and sustainablility of the sugarbush.
