Woods walk for woodlot owners and general public

The Northern ADK Chapter of the NY Forest Owners Assoc. and New York Audubon are co-sponsoring a workshop on the topic of woodlot management for songbirds. The workshop will be held at the Westport Town watershed, Essex Co., on Saturday, Sept. 18th, 10 am to 1 pm. Foresters will showcase recent timber harvest practices and a forester with Audubon will explain the specifics of songbird habitat requirements. Relevant publications and tree scale sticks, along with a brown-bag lunch will be available free of charge. Attendees will also learn how to identify the 6 native species of maples in the Adirondacks and how to monitor the impact of deer browsing on forest regeneration.

Driving Directions:

Heading east on Route 9N (from the Westport Mobil station): Head southeast on 9N towards Fitzgerald Rd. Turn right onto Fitzgerald Rd and continue on for 1.5 miles. Make a left on Lodge Hill Rd. and continue on for .3 miles. Make your next right on McMahon Rd. for 2 miles to arrive at the destination.

Directions from 44 (from the junction of Stevenson Rd. and Mountain Springs Rd.): Turn onto Mountain Springs Rd. heading west and continue on for .6 miles. Take a sharp left to continue on Mountain Springs Rd. for another .5 miles. Turn right onto McMahon road and continue for .3 miles to the destination.
